This is the ultimate outdoors weekend!
Fly or drive to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, and pick up your fishing license, check your huntin seasons times, and pick up any groceries you might need. Make sure to bring a bear whistle!
Drive north towards the town of Wawa, Ontario (it's about a 3.5 hour drive).
You'll pass gorgeous scenery on both sides of your vehicle: Lake Superior (the biggest freshwater lake of them all!) on your left, and Canadian Shield rocks and wilderness on your right. Keep an eye out for loons, deer, and other wild creatures.
If you're into rock climbing, stop by near Pancake Bay Provincial Park and check out some of the climbing trails. If you've got small kids with you, pull into the park and take them for a swim in the shallow, warm waters of Pancake Bay.
If you're feeling more adventurous, keep driving north for about a half an hour and get a camping spot at the world-famous Lake Superior Provincial Park (otherwise known as Agawa). This is an outdoorsman's paradise. Sandy campsites look over the unforgettable Lake Superior- don't miss out on the sunsets! Fishing and hunting are available just on the other side of the highway. If you stop by the Visitor's Centre, guides can give you a list of the hikes in the area- considered to be some of the best in the country!
Settle down for the night at Agawa, campfire buning and marshmallows roasting, and prepare yourself for a gorgeous sunrise! Watch out for curious moose and other creatures!
If you're not the campfire-cooking type, a truck stop-style diner and filling station can be found about 15 minutes south of Agawa. Try the Trucker's Breakfast- it's unforgettable! |
